Ep. 17: Jill, Employee Health Nurse
Jill is a registered nurse with 35 years of experience. Jill started caring for others when she was just 13 years old volunteering in an assisted living home where she cared for individuals who could no longer be in their homes. This mission and ability to make people as comfortable as possible in an oftentimes uncomfortable situation were what drove Jill’s career in nursing over the last three decades.
When Jill first started out she worked in the ICU, spent time as a family planning coordinator sharing wellness tips with young women, transitioned into a role as an outreach clinic coordinator, and later served as a clinical nursing supervisor at a Family Practice clinic. In Jill’s current role she is an employee health nurse and serves as one of the first points of contact for new employees, welcoming them to the large hospital environment and performing necessary employee health screens.
Jill is excited to go to work each day because she continues to learn something new and gets the opportunity to work with amazing women every day. Jill reminds us all to do the best we can, to not beat ourselves up over yesterday, and to just keep moving forward.
What We Cover:
- When she was in 3rd grade she got her first glimpse of nursing when she was hospitalized and watched as nurses began taking care of people when their families couldn’t be there to care for them.
- She continued to give attention to her interest in nursing and in 7th grade volunteered as hospitals taking care of people, making them as comfortable as you can make them in an oftentimes uncomfortable situation.
- She shared her excitement for new people entering the field of nursing because there are so many opportunities available in the field that she says she continues to learn from on a daily basis.
- We explore the fact that when she was growing up In the 60’s, the women she saw around her stay at home moms, office assistants, nurses, or teachers.
- Jill is the forever optimist and she tells us that she never really thought it wasn’t going to work
- She gives us the all-encompassing reminder that I love so much and that is that you do the best you can, try not to beat yourself up over yesterday (yesterday doesn’t define you), cut yourself some slack, don’t spend too much time worrying about what you could’ve done, and just keep trying.
